Buying and Selling on Dollation

Once you've collected for even a little while, you're going to end up with things you'd like to sell or trade. Dollation can help you buy and sell, but all transactions are off-site between buyer and seller. We recommend you use PayPal if you're exchanging money, or another service that has buyer and seller protection. If you decide to sell on Dollation, here are some other things to keep in mind:

  • The For Sale tab under Collection Tracker > My Collection is your view of the things you have for sale. The public view is on your profile where there's another tab labeled For Sale.
  • Things will not appear on your public For Sale list if a) they do not have a price, or b) they do not have a condition value.
  • It is also highly recommended that you add a recent, clear picture that shows all the parts of the item, ideally without things that aren't included. (If your item is new in box then that's optional, of course.)
  • If your item is incomplete (relative to the original product), please mark it that way and use the Description field to mention what is missing or included.
  • You can set your Selling Policies by editing your profile. Please use that to discuss shipping policy (such as whether you ship internationally, how you calculate shipping, etc.), forms of payment you accept, and so on. These are shown at the top of your public For Sale list.
  • If your item's condition is below Excellent, a short note in Description and/or clear pictures is also helpful.
  • Please don't add things to your For Sale list if you're not ready to ship them. You can set your item's status to I plan to sell this to separate them as you work out details and get them ready.
  • Once you sell your item, please change the status to Sold or Gifted so it is removed from your For Sale list. This will also give you a place to keep track of who you sold it to, how much your sold it for, etc.
  • If you have a dispute with a Dollation member, please go through PayPal to resolve it. That said, if you think someone is an actual scammer, let us know through the Contact form and provide documentation. We reserve the right to block any account.
  • You're going to have to advertise your For Sale list off-site, at least for now. We don't want the commercial aspects to take away from the reference/collection tracker mission of the site. We may add links/counts on the product pages to help people who are trying to find a product, and we may add an optional link/count under your name where it appears throughout the site.
