UFDC is the United Federation of Doll Clubs and you can find out more about the organization in the Directory here at Dollation or at the UFDC website. Dollation is not affiliated with UFDC but we share similar goals: promoting doll collecting and enabling doll collectors to have fun together.

On-line doll communities like Dollation are wonderful things:

  • They're available 24/7.
  • People can join from all over the world.
  • There can be large numbers of people in an on-line community -- you're not limited by the size of a room.
  • Words and images stay around, unlike an in-person doll program or show-and-tell.

But there's a lot to be said for a good, old-fashioned, local doll club! Denise Van Patten gave her Top 10 Reasons To Join a Doll Club over at and they are so very true. You must go read her full article, but to summarize her reasons:

  1. To Learn About The Dolls That You Have
  2. To Learn About The Dolls That You Don't Have
  3. To Make Life-Long Friends With Like-Minded Interests
  4. Because of the UFDC
  5. Because of Doll Conventions!
  6. To Help Promote Local Doll Shows and Events
  7. For Fun!
  8. For Charitable Reasons
  9. For Profit
  10. To, Just Once, Be In An Entire Room Full Of People Who Don't Think it is Cute or Quaint To Collect Dolls

Several of these only or mostly apply to the "meet in person" kinds of clubs though some apply to our on-line community too. Do you belong to a local doll club? As Denise points out, "Doll collecting is fun...but it's even more fun when you join a [local] doll club!"

I'd like to emphasize her #4 reason: Because of the United Federation of Doll Clubs. As it says on the organization's About UFDC page:

Members of the United Federation of Doll Clubs are united by our appreciation of dolls of all types. The objectives of the non-profit organization are to create, stimulate and maintain a national and international interest in all matters pertaining to doll collecting.

By joining and supporting UFDC, you are helping maintain their excellent museum, you have the opportunity to attend their conventions (both national and regional), you get a subscription to the fantastic Doll News magazine, and a lot more. You can contact the appropriate regional director to find a club in your area or you can even join as a "member-at-large". (If there's not a doll club in your area, why not start one?!)
