Spotlight On Kaya!

As I mentioned in my New Year's Resolution post, I've decided to focus on one doll per month and give her the spotlight! This means I will organize her collection, make sure she is fully documented here on Dollation (including reviews), take new pictures of her in fun scenes, read any of her books I've missed, and so on.

I've decided to spend this year going through my American Girl Historical Characters in order, one per month. This works out well since there are twelve characters. So, Kaya is first for January which is good since I have very few pictures of my Kaya.

This will be more fun if you join me! Create a blog post and put "Spotlight, Kaya, 2013" in the tags. Show us your album of pictures of your Kaya and add her stuff that you own to your Collection Tracker. Add some reviews and/or tell us how your Kaya fits in to your collection. Has she gone modern? How do you display her? And so on.

This is a great idea! I don't have Kaya, but if/when I get another American Girl it will definitely be her.

Thanks, Molly! So far, so good. My Kaya came to my doll club meeting with me and I just finished the last of her books I hadn't read (the short stories). Now I just need to take some pictures.

You don't need to pick the same doll I am if you'd like to play along!

What a fun idea!  I just happen to be taking a photo a day of Mini Kaya during January.  Can I play along with her?  I'm not using a blog.  My photo a day challenge photos are all on Flickr.

OK, I must be dense.  I just figured out that we can do blog entries here on Dollation.  I'm not sure why I didn't realize it before.  Now I can't figure out how to get the photos into the blog post.  Is there a guide somewhere?

LOL! The blog stuff is still a little in development so I haven't written the Handbook page yet like I have for the first three sections. Soon I will make it so you can click a new button on the Editor toolbar to upload a new picture and insert it into the blog post (or choose one you've uploaded before) but for now it's a little harder:

  • Add the picture to one of your albums or find the picture you want that you've already added either on Dollation or somewhere else on the web, like Flickr.
  • Right click on the picture and choose "Copy Image Location". The actual label of the menu choice may vary by browser.
  • Go to the blog post where you want to insert the picture and click the Image icon (the one that looks like a little photo that says "Image" when you hover over it).

  • Paste the image location you copied into the URL field and click OK.
  • If you need to adjust the size, you want to add some white space around it, or you want to center it or align it left or right, just double click on the picture and a dialog will pop up that lets you do all those things.

Not too hard, especially once you do it a few times but I do plan to make it even easier soon.

Yes, please blog here! Not everyone wants to take the time to set up their own blog at wordpress.com or blogger.com so I thought this would make it really easy for those who want to blog. You can't customize your Dollation blog with your own theme or widgets (yet!) like you can at those other places, but that will come eventually if people want it. If someone already blogs elsewhere, they can send me their blog link and, if I think it's appropriate for Dollation, I'll add it to the Blogs Around the Planet page. (It has to be primarily doll-related.)

Hey, looks like I've made a good start on writing the handbook page after all!

Thanks!  That was easy enough once I went through your steps.  I was doing everything except the right click on the photo part.  I was trying to place the URL the way I usually do with Flickr photos using the share button.  It just wasn't working. One step I would add when using Flickr is that you need to pick from the view all sizes menu when you first right click on the photo.  I chose medium 640. Then I was able to right click on the photo that came up and choose Copy image URL.  Worked like a charm after that.
